There is a Chinese saying that goes: "If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody." For centuries, the greatest thinkers have suggested the same thing: Happiness is found in helping others.
Being a part of the ESA Foundation surely gives one the opportunity to experience the type of happiness found in helping others.
If you were able to attend the Annual Meeting in Phoenix in July, you met three remarkable people who were helped by the ESA Foundation either through a scholarship or grant. These scholarships and grants were made available by YOU, the dedicated members of the ESA Foundation.
A challenge was issued in Phoenix at IC Convention asking each current Life Active member to reach out and encourage as many new Life Active members as possible.
Current trends in the job market are making job-retraining a necessity. The ESA Foundation is working to remove barriers through Career Enhancement grants supported by ESA Foundation Life Active members. Support career advancement become an ESA Foundation Life Active member. What began with a bang in Phoenix, with 24 new Life active members when the challenge went out, will only grow as the year progresses!
Taylor Peneda, a remarkable young woman who is a multi-Scholarship winner, spoke to the members at the Annual Meeting in Phoenix and we were all taken in by her sincerity, passion, and her ability to share her story.
Taylor graduated from Arizona State's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College with a MA in Educational Policy. Taylor also holds a Bachelors degree in Communications with a minor in Media Analysis and Political Science from ASU.
A $2,000 Grant was awarded to "Helping Hands for Single Moms"
now, Single Moms Scholars of Tucson that allowed 4 students to sit for their respiratory therapist exams. Ebony Dunn, Registered Respiratory Therapist from Tucson, AZ spoke at IC Convention about what sitting for her exams meant to her family.
This year's Art Spark Grant was awarded to Ronaela Muter for $945.
The book "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" was the inspiration for a group of California 5th grade students who had designed, worked on and produced a project based on the book.
They'd made all the preparations to present it ...and the school had to pull the funds!
Our grant enabled the students to continue, finish and present their project. The supplies purchased will continue to enable next year's project also.
Small donations from individuals can make a difference!
Thank you for all your continued support of the ESA Foundation Grants Program.
WOW! We had another successful ESA Foundation Fund Fest at IC Convention in Phoenix, AZ. Together we raised around $13,000!
You embraced the new games and enjoyed the seasoned games we have each year. The donation of state baskets/purses, silent auction items and oral action items was awe-inspiring. On top of the donation of items, you were generous in your bids. Thank you!!
ESA Foundation Impact: Firefighter Country Foundation
Through the ESA Foundation Grants program, Chaired by Cathy Holsted, a $1000 Life Grant was awarded to Fighter Country Foundation at Luke Airforce Base, Goodyear, AZ in honor of 2017-18 IC President, Sandy Alexander.
Ron Site, Executive Director and President of Fighter Country was invited to receive the check at our meeting in Phoenix.
The Fighter Country Partnership's mission is to take care of and support the morale, culture, well-being and tradition of over 400 military families with opportunities off base not already supplied by the military. He made certain we understood that the military can readily take care of their own but our added 'civilian' dollars would give added aid and comfort to "those who also serve".
