"We shall pass this way on Earth but once, if there is any kindness we can show, or good act we can do, let us do it now, for we will never pass this way again." - Stephen Grellet
Florida previously submitted a courtesy bid for SERC 2020 and Ida would like to discuss a formal bid at our Mid-Year meeting on October 13th.
A cruise would be a bit outside the box ..but we have received a lot of favorable feedback to the idea.
We have talked to travel agents and also called cruise lines directly.
Tentative dates and cruise details:
November 5-9, 2020. 4 nights - Thursday to Monday. This is a little longer than the norm, but we would be able to hold meetings, installation and still allow lots of time to enjoy all that a cruise has to offer.
Ship: Carnival Elation - sailing to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral (Orlando).
Thursday -Depart - 4 p.m. Sailaway Party, dinner, catch a show onboard, etc.
Friday- Nassau, Bahamas — Opportunity to go to the beach, take a shore tour, shop or relax by the pool, etc.
Saturday - Day at Sea - Meeting and Installation. Cocktail Reception.
Sunday - Freeport, Bahamas - similar ideas as Nassau.
Monday (morning) we disembark off the ship.
Meeting Space including a microphone is free - but we may have $25.00 charges for a projector or sound, etc.
Cabin rates for November, 2020 are not yet available but are expected by Dec/Jan.
Below are rates for November, 2019 and I was told 2020 rates should not be much different.
Inside Cabins - starting at: $362.52 per person - 2 twin beds.
Outside Cabins - starting at: $388.42 per person - 2 twin beds.
Balcony Cabins - starting at: $583.52 per person - 2 twin beds.
These rates include all food, entertainment and most onboard activities as well as all taxes and port fees. You can also pre-pay onboard cabin gratuities.
A few other things to consider:
Less work and lower costs: there would be a minimal amount of work that would have to be done by Florida members. Cruise Line and travel agent do most of the work.
Registration for SERC 2019 is: $125.00 —- our costs on 2020 cruise would be fairly minimal —- examples of some of our costs: program, president’s cabin (this cost possibly reduced by cruise line for reserving a large number of cabins) tote bag or some other idea to give each cruiser....so registration should be a good deal lower than $125.00.
Members set up an account directly with the cruise line to pay for their cabin and can pay overtime until final payment is due 60-90 days before sailing date.
