"I saw my cardiologist and got the results from the latest echocardiogram. My "ejection fraction" had dropped to 20% and thus was wearing the defibrillator vest. When your heart gets below about 30% it is a strong possibility of sudden cardiac death so the defibrillator would help prevent that. It is back up to 40% so the vest can come off. I was so excited I almost ripped it off in front of the doctor. (took it off in Chuck's car en route home).
I have been very short of breath these past few weeks, and the echo showed that my mitral valve has developed a hole, and will need to be repaired. Before that happens I will need to have a TEE. (not golf time..."transesophageal echocardiogram.") Once that is done a surgery date will be scheduled and a cardiac surgeon will do the mitral valve repair. He says it's not a complicated procedure. They go in through the groin, similar to a heart cath. That's all I know at this point. I get to drop one medication but remain on sodium restriction.
To all my friends, thank you so much for your continued support and prayer. There is always much to be thankful for."
The TEE for Jan is now scheduled for Tuesday the 26th. Keeps the cards and love coming for Jan

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.” ― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

“The Magi in my life have always surprised me. They have often been people I initially felt I had nothing in common with. Sometimes I didn’t even like them. But they came bearing gifts. Of wisdom or acceptance. One or two came to give me a kick in the pants… and some left as suddenly as they came. They returned to the respective homelands or continued on their own journeys. I miss some of them… But we all have to find out way toward what ever miracle awaits us. And to perform miracles, when it is in our power to do so. Maybe the most important question is: How so I serve the Magi for others? How generously do I give my gifts – and not just to the obvious recipients in my life? How far out of my way do I go to recognize and pay homage to miracles? Not very far some days. But on good days, just far enough! ~ Juliette Fay

Every major faith has a call to prayer, whether it is the ululating melody of the Adhan being called out by a muezzin from the mosque five times a day, the pealing of bells from church towers, the sharp sound of the Jewish shofar or the exotic timbre of gongs at Hindu and Buddhist Temples. These calls encourage their believers to set aside the stress and trials of daily life and focus on what can help lift them and encourage them to be their best self. I encourage you to take time this week to set aside the worries of daily life and using whatever “call to prayer” you chose to focus on what can uplift you.

Yesterday, Eldon was terribly hateful, not physically, but mentally. I pray this isn’t starting a new stage with his Alzheimer’s because it has always been fairly peaceful.I see him several (at least four or five) times a week. Our son saw him Saturday and finally realizes how bad he is, he thought I was exaggerating. His body is really strong, but his mind is almost gone. If you have any extra prayers, please pray for little one for me, as it is really hard seeing him this way so often. He is in really good care, so I don’t have to worry about that.
Margaret Shook, Chi Epsilon, has an update on Walt and is requesting prayers for Walt. He was able to have chemo even though his blood levels were not good. His platelets were 77 and they want it to be at least 100. Since being on steroids he has developed steroid diabetes and is now on insulin. His blood pressure was 81 over 51, so they gave him saline which did make it improve. He has discontinued his blood pressure meds for the time being. His main problem seems to be extreme fatigue and shortness of breath. They are asking for prayers that the effects of the chemo will lessen and he will be feeling better soon. Thank you for your continued prayers for Walt and Margaret.
