ESA IC Chaplain Report

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”

You are stronger than you think! That’s because God’s strength is unlimited and always available to you.  He never meant for us to accomplish everything

on our own. Whatever you’ve faced this week, take it to Him in prayer and trust Him with it. There is nothing our God cannot do and in Him, you are stronger than you think!

“God, your promises are overwhelming. Thank you for your strength and power in my life.”

Austen Bell update:

Austen has finally turned the corner and stabilized medically. Her BP AND TEMP HAVE BEEN NORMAL FOR 24 hours. After 4 units of platelets and 3 pints of blood her blood counts are nearing the normal range. She has been off oxygen since mid-morning. The UTI is clear and the CDiff is improving. She actually sat in a chair and played a game for an hour this afternoon. She still has not eaten but is at least drinking. Your prayers and concern have meant so much to us. Praise God for all blessings!

“As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

You want prosperity, education, comfort, and safety for yourself and those you love.  When you want for other people the good – education, comfort, and safety - that you want for yourself, you are following His command and loving others as you love yourself.  There is more than enough love to share.

“Lord, I don’t want to be preoccupied with myself when your people are in need. Please show me who to love and how to love them”

“Love each other as I have loved you.”

When you see a circumstance you just can’t bear to watch or think about any longer, pray. Ask for guidance. Even ask what you can do specifically. Then do it – and watch the Lord lead you, equip you, and guide you into the role He has for you: the role of loving others as He has all over the world.

“Thank you for opening my eyes to the great needs in your world. Please show me where you want me to serve.”

Please keep Laura and her family in your prayers:

My surgery has been postponed. After going to my pre-op., it was determined my sugars were too high. It is now scheduled for 2/7. I am on a strict diet and meds to get the sugars down. My sugars are going down and doctors believe we will be where we need to be. I've been in a good bit of discomfort, but finally got some pain meds. I pray I have enough time to recover before heading to my trip to Israel in March.

On another note, my son's dad has seen the cancer doctor. Right now, they can only tell us that the cancer has not progressed to the organs; however there are infectious fluid inside the cavity where the right kidney once lived. We have to get the fluid drained, it is causing a LOT of pain. The order for drainage was put in today 1/24...so hopefully not long now. After that, a PET scan to determine if cancer has attached to the bone.

Day by day, we go forward. It is a lot to process and work through. People ask what they can do these days and I say "tell me a joke". I need positivity and prayers!

ESA IC Chaplain Report

Sunday, February 12, 2023

“Love each other as I have loved you.”

When you see a circumstance you just can’t bear to watch or think about any longer, pray. Ask for guidance. Even ask what you can do specifically. Then do it – and watch the Lord lead you, equip you, and guide you into the role He has for you: the role of loving others as He has all over the world.

“Thank you for opening my eyes to the great needs in your world. Please show me where you want me to serve.”

ESA IC Chaplain Report
Monday, January 23, 2023

“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.”

We all want to get from “here” to “there” – wherever “there” is for us.  For some of us, it’s a promotion we’ve worked toward, completing our degree, getting married or moving through a struggle.  Every step you take today to move you from “here” to “there” is ordered by the Lord.  Rest in this assurance, resist the temptation to obsess about where you will end up someday and trust God by being faithful where you are now.

“Lord, thank you for bringing me from where I was to where I am.  Teach me to be faithful.”

~ Christine Caine

Mary Hill is asking for prayers for herself.   She now needs prayers because she has suffered a stroke in her right eye. Her vision is affected. It has been getting blurrier, Mary saw the doctor for an injection, and will proceed whenever he tells me what we’re to do next. She is a bit overwhelmed. No cards, just good vibrations and prayers thank you.

Update on Rita Baker - She had an appointment yesterday with her orthopedic surgeon’s office where they took more x-rays. Her radius is splintered at the wrist.  Her orthopedic surgeon has worked her into his surgery schedule Thursday, January 12 where he will move the bone back in place, put in a plate and screws.

Mary Hill is asking for prayers for her grandson. He suffered seizures at a very young age. All of a sudden, they have reappeared, recurring several times in the last few months. They have been unable to determine a clause for the seizures. He is unable to drive for at least the next three months, so his mother and father have had to journey to Houston to provide family support and assistance as they work through this condition. She would appreciate prayers for her grandson. No cards are required.  They just need for prayer warriors to step up and join them as they ask for direction during this difficult period. She would like to give everyone a virtual hug for praying for this very important issue.

At my Mom's Oncologist (Multiple Myeloma) appointment today it was decided that it was time to call on Hospice.  We had discussed this with her ahead of time and everything went well.  The Hospice assessment will be on Thursday.  We want to keep her home until she goes and this is the best option.  Some prayers for us as we navigate this new path would be appreciated.  No cards are necessary.

“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.””

The first day of a new year always inspires me to take an honest look at every aspect of my life and schedule, and to decide any necessary adjustments,  I want to always be sure I’m staying the course, laser focused.  Let’s commit to focusing on the One who calms the storms.  Then we won’t be overwhelmed by our circumstances, problems, challenges, or feelings. We won’t fear the waves of opposition.  Instead, faith will rise up and make us unshakeable!

“Lord, help me to stay focused on You, every moment of every day.”.”

ESA IC Chaplain Report
Monday, November 28, 2022

“Remember your leaders…and…imitate their faith”

As you travel your journey, it can take a lot of strength at times to keep going – to keep believing.  One thing I have learned that has helped me tremendously to stay strong, faithful, and forward looking is a lesson I learned long ago: make the faith of other’s a motivator.  Look at your mentors and who inspires you.  Mother Teresa’s story helps me believe that maybe, just maybe, I can do half as much for humanity in my lifetime as she did in hers.

“Lord, thank you for working through the lives of others.  Help me draw strength and motivation from them to keep moving forward.”

~ Christine Caine

It is with both sadness and divine joy that we write to tell you all of our mother Marjorie’s passing. She was welcomed by the Lord on Thursday November 17, 2022.

After her stroke in September of 2021, she was happy and well-cared for in an assisted living facility. But in January of 2022, she began having some serious health issues and was enrolled in hospice in February. Then, you know our mom, she rallied and has had a happy existence until the last few weeks when her condition began declining and her passing became imminent. Even so, she has remained comfortable and as determined as ever to complete her task. We were all there, able to be with her as she neared the end and spent a very joyful and satisfying day before she returned home to our Lord and our daddy.

Her memorial service will be held at Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church, 1029 NE Kansas Avenue, Topeka, KS. on Saturday November 26, 2022, at 1 pm.

Her obituary is available at www.davidsonfuneral.com.

Memorials can be made to KS Ave United Methodist Church, PO Box 8184, Topeka, KS 66608-0184 or Topeka Rescue Mission, PO Box 8350, Topeka, KS 66608-0350.

Thank you all for your cards and prayers. She thoroughly enjoyed the cards, re-reading them every so often, and she benefitted mightily from your prayers.
